where! love! dies!

i never got to fully talk about paradise killer and it's always on my brain, i'm thinking about it constantly and trying to relive playing it through other games, so here it is: ALL (OR MOST) OF MY THOUGHTS ON PARADISE KILLER. spoilers ahead, obviously.

i am obsessed with lady love dies, i am obsessed with her portrait and how they've made her fat and she's not made into a joke and is seen as capable and empathetic and how shinji is basically her demonic sidekick. i was crossing my finger that he didn't do anything and was just some demon chilling watching the world end and i was right!!!

i really enjoyed the majority of the characters, but especially the ladies. all of them, even akiko and carmelina ESPECIALLY CARMELINA. i was holding out hope that she was the mastermind because she just comes off as a shitty person (i mean, the woman hates cats because they remind her too much of her) and was pleased that she was the one who started the conspiracy for the sole reason why i thought she would. i didn't get the ending with her son but i saw an ending where you can find him, blame henry (something i could never do...) and then tell her about how you know who dainonigate is and she flat out says that she has no idea what lady means... COLD HEARTED, WE HATE TO LOVE AND LOVE TO HATE.

i also really loved one last kiss, i just have a thing for ghost ladies and having her story unravel to reveal the truth was really cathartic. i was also disappointed that you could flirt and bicker with her but you can't romance her!!!! i know she's gonna be gone after 24 but they couldn't let me just kiss the character who's name is one last kiss!

i really enjoyed how the writers get you attached to the characters and then present you with the quandaries of who to accuse and keep your fingers crossed that your favorites aren't on the list (unless they're akiko or carmelina lol). i nearly died when crimson had more evidence against her for KH.X than yuri did and was relieved that i didn't have to accuse her because i really just could not believe she would do anything especially because of the shit situation she was in.

i tried getting away with not accusing sam and lydia by accusing witness and it backfired on me (by accusing henry) and restarted the file and just bit the bullet, it was even worse when i accused sam only and lydia chimed in saying she was involved on it too. IT BROKE MY HEART, i really loved them both and did not want to execute them :'( i would love to replay it and get the ending where dainonigate is accused and let them live... but i also wonder if death somehow gave them the chance to finally be free like they wanted to be.

i really loved crimson's storyline too, how she was thrust into the spotlight as an idol when all she wants to be is a soldier. watching the fandom sexualize her and pin her into her role makes my heart hurt lol even though she's fictional... they're doing what crimson would hate... i had her and lady have sex with hopes that they could move onto 25 together and be in a long term relationship. i als invited her to be coworkers with lady which is even saucier because i just wanna see a fat woman in love with another woman. paradise killer IS really paradise because i get to create mine >:)

i did scream "I FUCKED THE GOAT WOMAN" to my wife because i didn't realize you could have sex with any of he characters let alone crimson????? well, it was a great surprise and it happened and they're in love (in my head) and i didn't even realize i fucked the goat lady until after it happened, so there you go.

the only qualm i had was all the people of color were obvious enemies. i really liked witness and was holding out that he wasn't going to do anything alas... and yuri being an obvious suspect + the interracial couple being blamed together + akiko being roma and also an obvious suspect really just sucked lol - it stung even more with the fact that crimson and dj doom jazz are your love interests, both white and both obviously innocent. like i said, crimson can be blamed for KH.X's murder, yet she maintains innocence the whole time which the others do not and drag more of the syndicate in with them.

i think they wanted to hone in on the class disparity more, it just kinda sucks that it had to turn out like that. at least there is hope that you don't have to blame sam and lydia at some point because i refuse to also pin it all on henry just because he's lower class.

i was also surprised that it was carmelina who killed grace and not akiko. it just doesn't seem like carmelina to get involved in strangling someone because of the work it takes lmao. that was a wild turnout to see especially because one last kiss was at the trial, you think carmelina would have totally just been like "what the fuck is she doing here, she's dead."

overall the atmosphere was incredible. i think about how "dear esther" felt when i first played it, how it reminds me of that, and the empty open world of island 24, abandoned after evacuation. it was very eerie, very unsettling and glamorous all in one. seeing the ghosts of citizens still tied to the island was a very unique touch. the soundtrack was a perfect match of typical city pop/vaporwave/synthwave and the upbeat energy of the songs really made it even creepier and at the same time, reminds me of when i walk around where i live when i don't come across another soul and how alluring that is.

my favorite part of it all though is the title card. for a game to really stand out to me, the title card needs to be strong. the way the menu opens up to the song playing, the saxophone in the background, it makes it hard to even get past the title because of how it lulls you in. i think a games most important point should always be the title card because it's what starts your game, what defines it. the only other standout title card i can remember is the one for killer7. that one accurately describes the game even in it's simplicity.

now i am on my way playing deadly premonition and i think i'm either going to finish coffee talk after or play sally face next (with paradise killer in between hahaaaaaaaa). i am super hooked on open world murder mysteries now that it's tempting to just keep playing the ones i have over and over but i really need to get to the rest of my list so i can buy neo-cab!
