whooooo are you

i finished deadly premonition! here is my write up about it, featuring spoilers.

this game was definitely a 4/5, i feel that i got frustrated with it quite a lot but once i got into it, i REALLY got into it. the final stretch was really tense, really dramatic and the twist that you get to play as the original raincoat killer at one point was incredible. it was a great way to show that he was actually not this horrendous monster, just a victim of kaysen, and yet lived on as lore for years to come as this twisted, malicious serial killer. i thought it was great that you can run the entire way to the clocktower without even going on a murderous rampage.

the death scenes in this game are well crafted and full of tension and heartache. we don't see anna except her dead body, through her loved ones and as a "ghost" - she never speaks though, just laughs and i loved how they did that. the scene where she guides you through town was especially beautiful, even if all those undead are popping up. i really felt something for anna despite how little we saw of her.

i loved diane's death the most because it was so unsettling to see this woman so cool lose it from the shock of what happened to her, only to be killed by the one thing that really tethered her to the world: art. carol's was great too. again, the tension was well paced and thought out, it was a shocking scene and to see her finally take all her anger out on emily by shoving the red seeds in her mouth.

the biggest flaw were the antagonists. thomas, the homosexual. george, physically abused by his mother. kaysen, who takes on the appearance of a fat man and always talks about food. those made me CRRRIIIINNGEEEEE. it's not like this game was made in the early 2000s either, this game was in 2010 when the face of minority rep was beginning to change. i heard that in the 2nd game there was a lot of deadnaming a trans woman and despite it taking place in 2005 it's really like... ugh... come on........ tbh, 2005 is a stretch to be deadnaming someone too. the way these antagonists were portrayed took me out of the game a lot. it seemed unnecessarily cruel.

the open world got kind of bland too. i was uninterested in going to see others besides a few of my favorites. i wish they could have allowed you to make markers on where to go. i could remember most of the streets and how to get places, but it would have been nice so that i could interact with some of the characters more. i didn't even run into wesley at all after i first met him :(

it's definitely a game i want to revisit after a few years and i would like to play 2 when it's on sale. i haven't heard much but it doesn't sound like it carries the same charm of 1. i'm still curious though and would like to check it out, especially since they patched the deadnaming and misgendering lines.

i'm almost done with hypnospace outlaw too. i don't know what i expected it to be, but it turned into a mystery LOL i'm really enjoying it. i went slow at the beginning so that i could really look at websites and interact with the browser, download things and get a feel for the system. it gives me digital: a love story vibes. it's short but i love it, it's definitely one of my favorites for sure. keeps me wanting to create my art series that deal with early era internet.

i'm obsessed with mysteries lately, as you can see. paradise killer kicked it off. watching twin peaks is going to be a big chunk of that... and i'm going to beat coffee talk and start on sally face cuz i wanna solve mysteries!!!!

it's finally 30 degrees and balmy outside after 2 weeks of negative temps and 6 feet of snow on the ground constantly. i'm alive again. i wanna go outside again! amazing.
